AUSILIO: "WE NEED TO KEEP CHASING"

Speaking ahead of the Nerazzurri’s clash with Crotone, the sporting director underlined the importance of qualifying for the Europa League

CROTONE –  Speaking to Mediaset Premium before Inter v Crotone, Piero Ausilio was asked about coach Stefano Pioli’s comments during Friday’s news conference.

"The boss spoke in a way to galvanise himself and the team. Everything surrounding Inter is in the spotlight, because we have a duty to respect the history of this club, which does things in a certain way. This is Inter, we must always push for more," he said.

When questioned as regards potential dealings in the summer transfer window and offers from the Premier League for Ivan Perisic, the sporting director emphasised the team’s own ambitions: "Inter are building and to do that we need to keep our best players. Ivan is part of an important project here."

Ausilio was also quizzed on the role of Joao Mario, who started the Crotone clash on the bench.

"In top sides there are always key players both on the field and on the bench. He’s a European champion and a great player. Today the boss has made a different choice but when the time comes the player will need to show he deserves to start."

And on the Nerazzurri’s aims, with the season drawing to a close, he commented: "We got up and running with a bit of a handicap. When you’re chasing other teams there’s no room for error. We need to carry on chasing, because we must get into the Europa League."
