CORDOBA – Inter Academy is now expanding to Argentina, with Javier Zanetti inaugurating the site in Cordoba, in the heart of his homeland.
Argentina has always had strong ties with Inter and their relationship is epitomised by club legend Javier Zanetti, who made history on the pitch and is now doing likewise in his managerial role. Besides Zanetti, a whole host of Argentine stars have represented the Nerazzurri over the years – as many as 47 former players and members of the current first-team squad. These strong roots have allowed Inter to develop a fanbase of more than five million people in the country.
Club Deportivo Atalaya have joined Inter as a partner in the project. Their training facilities will operate as the Inter Academy Cordoba development centre, with affiliated football schools across the province and a curriculum to train not only young players but also local coaches. The project has been created with the aim of developing young players using the Nerazzurri methodology in their homeland, in respect of the laws of the game and international moral standards.
Deportivo Atalaya have always focused on development, which makes them the ideal partner for Inter Academy.
Piero Foglia will run the project from the technical side. He boasts more than a decade of experience in youth football and attended the unveiling alongside Inter Academy project director Barbara Biggi and the organisation’s technical director Marco Monti.
Inter Academy Cordoba will work with 300 youngsters aged 8-16. They will be trained by a team of 10 local coaches coordinated by Valerio Candido, one of the instructors from the Nerazzurri's Italian academies, with work due to begin in April.
