MILAN – Stefano Vecchi has told Sportitalia that the whole Inter youth academy is delighted to see Andrea Pinamonti taking his first steps with the senior squad.
"Having one of our youngsters make their Serie A debut is important recognition for the work of the youth academy," said Vecchi. "Pinamonti is an important player for us and certainly gives us a boost, but we’d be nothing but delighted if Pioli continues to use him because – aside from getting results on the pitch – the main aim of the youth academy is to help youngsters move up into the first team. Pinamonti is proving he’s good enough to make the step up."
Vecchi also spoke of the importance of Sunday’s league win over Roma.
"We’re delighted to have got the win," said the Primavera boss. "It’s good for our league standing and is especially welcome because our head-to-head record with Roma this season was making for uncomfortable reading. We know that they’re a great side but we believe we’re just as good, so we want to turn our recent form against them around. The three points give us a confidence boost ahead of our upcoming matches."
The annual Viareggio Cup is just under a month away, but Vecchi was keen for his side to stay focused on their league commitments.
"We still have four league matches before the tournament begins," said the coach. "Every match poses its own problems so we need to try to maintain our form and preserve our lead over the chasing pack."
