SAMADEN PRAISES INTER SPIRIT IN SEMI-FINAL DEFEAT

Youth academy chief on Inter v Roma: "Our boys had them under the cosh and showed they can hold their own against anyone. Now we'll focus on our other targets"

SESTO SAN GIOVANNI - Nerazzurri youth academy director Roberto Samaden has applauded Inter U19s semi-final display against Roma, although it sadly wasn't enough for them to reach the final.

Stefano Vecchi's Primavera boys were unable to make their dominance count as they looked to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg, eventually losing 2-1 on the day.

"The last few times we've played Roma they were the better side but we should have been in front at half time today," Samaden began.

"The lads showed tremendous spirit. Despite playing on a difficult surface they created lots of chances and forced Roma onto the back foot.

“We conceded the first goal because of a mistake but we fought back and almost completed the turnaround with Bakayoko before they got their second goal. I'm sure this game will do the lads' confidence a world of good because it shows they can hold their own against anyone. Roma have a fantastic squad and they're the Italian champions.

"I congratulated the players and the staff for their attitude because they had Roma under the cosh and carved out loads of openings.

“It's a shame but we've reached the semi-finals once again after winning this competition last year. Now we'll focus on our other targets.”
