MILAN - Back at the San Siro for Christmas Night Out, Lothar Matthaus shared his thoughts with Inter Channel about returning to his former stomping ground.
"I have so many wonderful memories here,” he began. “It was important to win the Scudetto in 1989 because the fans had been waiting for it for so long and we were a new team.
“The fans are just as much a part of Inter's history as the players. Without them there would be no atmosphere – it just wouldn't be football.
"Inter are a club with a fantastic history. Now it's time to start winning again. It's important the team maintain their calm on and off the pitch in the new year. They have a good coach and Suning behind them, they're playing well and they've got huge potential. I believe they have every chance of qualifying for the Champions League.
“Icardi is a superb player. The fans need to understand that you play as one and they need to give the team their constant support.”
