MILAN – Piero Ausilio answered a few questions shortly before kick-off in Inter v Lazio.
"We've got an important game tonight and we want to narrow the gap in the league table," he began. "We haven't had a lot of time to prepare for the game but what matter most in matches like these are belief and conviction."
Ausilio also revealed the club's strategy in the January transfer window.
"We've agreed some general guidelines with Stefano Pioli and we all concur that trimming the squad has to be the main priority so that we have a balanced squad to work with for our upcoming commitments in the league and cup.
"As for Gabigol, it's too early to make decisions on his future. We're convinced he will be useful for Inter and we will choose the best solution for him with his family. However, judging by what we've seen in the last month especially, we think it might be important for Gabriel to carry on working with us, but we'll assess it together."
Finally, the sporting director spoke about Mauro Icardi's importance in Pioli's plans.
"Only those who know him and see him working every day understands what a model professional Mauro is," he concluded. "He wants to develop every day. He gives everything during the week and out on the pitch, always listening to his coach and continuing to improve.
"He's really gifted and, aside from being one of the best strikers in the world, he genuinely is a smashing lad."
