VECCHI: "GREAT WEEK FOR RESULTS AND PERFORMANCES"

Inter Primavera’s coach spoke after his side beat Atalanta, praising a top performance against a strong side

ZINGONIA – Stefano Vecchi expressed a great deal of satisfaction after his side’s most recent success against Atalanta. Speaking to Inter Channel after the Primavera’s tenth game of the league season, the boss said: “We’ve had a great week, in terms of both results and performances.

"We were feeling the effects of some tough games, because we beat Cagliari having played 80 minutes with fewer players and got the win against Udinese after extra time. We played really well today, against a strong team, made up of players who are set to go far," Vecchi continued.

When asked about his choice of formation, 4-4-2, the Primavera coach said: "Having had little time in the week to work, our aim was to set up an organised defence. We gave our opponents very little.

"If I was to nit-pick, I’d say we should have held onto the ball a bit better, especially in the second half where we could have done better with some breaks - that would have calmed things down for us."

The boss said a few words to finish about Axel Bakayoko, who is in a rich vein of goal-scoring form, having found the net four times in his last three games.

"Axel is an important player and he’s showing that. Remembering how Bakayoko performed last year, we knew we hadn’t seen that level this season until this week. He seems to have had a breakthrough and is now showing what he can do. Let’s hope he can help us reach the latter stages of every tournament we’re in," Vecchi concluded.
