APPIANO GENTILE - Stefano Pioli insists the form book means nothing when it comes to the derby as he prepares to make his debut in the Inter dugout against city rivals AC Milan on Sunday.
The Rossoneri have made a good start to the season under Vincenzo Montella but the Nerazzurri boss says that will matter little when the two sides clash at San Siro, adding that his own team are well set for the big showdown.
“I don't read anything into who are favourites on paper because games are won on the pitch," Pioli said in an interview with beIN Sports.
"We're going into the derby with the right level of focus and clear heads. I'm coaching a massive club and that obviously brings with it responsibilities.
"We've worked on lots of different situations and I'm pleased with how the lads have got on with the job, although we haven't had much time."
The coach went on to praise top scorer Mauro Icardi - already on 10 league goals in the current campaign - as well as his opposite number Montella, before signing off with a wish for the Nerazzurri fans.
“Icardi is scoring a lot but he also works hard for the team and he sets a great example to everyone.
“I know what Montella's about – he's a very competent coach.
“Inter have got fans all over the world. They follow us very closely and we want to give them something to cheer about.”
