VIAREGGIO – Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio spoke to the media as he was awarded the Gerardo Gioè prize in Viareggio on Monday evening.
"The derby is coming just at the right time," Ausilio told Sky Sport Italia. "We chose Pioli very carefully and calmly. He’s a very passionate person and wants to do well with Inter. I’m sure making his bow in the derby will give him plenty of motivation.
"There was no casting process. We simply met with various people and chose the right one. Our objective is still to get back into the Champions League.
"The Suning project only began in June, not several years ago. There’s no point denying that there have been a few problems, but when you have such an ambitious project you need time and above all patience.
"Gabriel Barbosa needs time too – he’s only 20 years old so you can’t expect him to win matches by himself. If he keeps working hard his time will come."
