MILAN – Mauro Icardi unveiled his new autobiography Sempre avanti - La mia storia segreta (Keep marching on: My secret story) in the centre of Milan this afternoon.
"The book tells some stories from my childhood and other moments in my life," the Inter captain explained following the event in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. "A lot of people don't know the Mauro Icardi away from the pitch and we wanted to reveal how I made it this far.
"Keep marching on is something my father used to say," Icardi added, explaining the choice of title. "He and my mum made loads of sacrifices for our family and he'd always tell me to keep looking at what's in front of me. My dad has always been right behind me throughout this whole journey and it was right that I dedicated the title to him.
"My memories of childhood involve a lot of friends. My dad is back in Argentina now and I often speak with those who stayed behind. I came to Italy via Barcelona and I'm pleased with the decision I made because it's thanks to Italian football that I've become who I am.
"As for the contract renewal, Wanda and I are happy here. She's an amazing wife and a great manager. Family is important for everyone and I hope football can continue to give me a lot.
"When I finally hang up my boots, I'll write another book which I hope will contain stories of victories and joy in the Nerazzurri shirt."
Icardi also spoke about the club's current form in Serie A: "As a team we have to work and compete against everyone with the same effort we showed against Juventus, then we'll see where we are in May. We need to perform better in certain moments during matches, fighting together as a team.
"This is a great squad and we've been working hard during the break. Little by little, the international players are coming back. Now we have to play well against Cagliari.
"Am I a top player? I'm just focusing on my job as a striker, which is to score goals. The club has made me feel wanted. I'm the captain and I'm happy. I want to repay the faith shown in me."
