ZANETTI RECEIVES PEACE AWARD

The vice president has been honoured with the Pellegrino di Pace International Recognition for his "sporting success and great personal qualities"

MILAN – This morning Javier Zanetti received a prestigious peace prize from the International Centre for Peace Among the Followers of St. Francis of Assisi.

Inter's vice president was chosen because of "his extraordinary sporting success and great personal qualities". The centre also said that he is "a positive role model for millions of young people and stands out for his generosity and sense of solidarity as shown by the support given to hundreds of children through the PUPI Foundation".

This award was first set up in 1988 and Zanetti joins a long list of distinguished recipients, including Mikhail Gorbachev, Pope John Paul II, Mother Theresa of Calcutta, Bill Gates, Kofi Annan, Ingrid Betancourt and Andrea Bocelli.
