MILAN – Javier Zanetti has spoken of his excitement at seeing the black and blue of Inter back in European competition.
"It’s great to be back in the Europa League, soaking up the atmosphere," said Zanetti ahead of kick-off between Inter and Hapoel Be’er Sheva. "It’s good for the development of the team, too."
Zanetti also spoke warmly about Nerazzurri captain Mauro Icardi.
"Icardi is young and can still learn – being captain is both a wonderful experience and an important responsibility. To do a good job you have to set an example on the pitch and off of it."
Last but not least, the Inter vice president looked back on the first few weeks of the Frank de Boer era.
"De Boer has done a great job. It wasn’t easy to come in at the end of pre-season and get results straight away. There was improvement against Palermo and Pescara and I think that’s really important. The win has injected some optimism – the team has really come on but there’s still room for improvement."
