PESCARA – Javier Zanetti shared some of his thoughts with Mediaset Premium just before kick off in the game between Inter and Pescara.
“We have had two weeks in which to work, even though we’ve had to do without a few players who were representing their national sides,” Zanetti began. “It’s been a helpful period for us all, the coach has been able to look at what needs improving.
“We have a quality squad and we are hoping our season really gets going this evening.”
When asked whether there may be a bit of fatigue among those who went away on international duty, the vice president replied: “Inter players always have to give that little bit extra, because of the shirt they are wearing.
“Looking at our squad, that’s what we’re expecting to see. We anticipate a great performance this evening,” he added.
“Everyone has a duty to give more. De Boer has his ideas and needs to time to get to know the Italian league, and to lay the foundations on which to build the team.
“He wants leaders in all areas. We’re all behind him and we’ll try and do our bit to help. Tonight’s game carries hidden dangers and we know there will be some difficult periods. We need time, but we want to be competitive as soon as possible.”
Regarding Ever Banega’s role in the team, Zanetti said: “He has a very good idea about where he will be playing tonight. His contribution could well be decisive because he’s a quality player. He has a knack for finding the right final ball.”
The vice president also highlighted the importance of Gary Medel, who acts as a screen in front of the defence.
