MEDEL’S CHILE SLIP TO PARAGUAY DEFEAT

The Nerazzurri midfielder wore the captain’s armband but was unable to stop Chile going down 2-1 to Paraguay

ASUNCION Gary Medel’s Chile side were beaten 2-1 by Paraguay in their World Cup 2018 qualification match on Thursday night.

Chile fell behind to two early goals at the Estadio Defensores del Chaco in Asuncion, Da Silva and Romero firing Paraguay into a two-goal lead inside ten minutes.

Arturo Vidal pulled one back for Chile in the 37th minute, but there was to be no completing the comeback for Medel’s men.

Medel – who was wearing the captain’s armband – started the game and played for 93 minutes, when he was shown a late red card for dissent.
