ZANETTI: "TOUGH GROUP BUT WE'RE IN IT TO WIN IT"

Vice president comments on the season ahead following today's Europa League draw: "I'm optimistic, we have a very competitive squad"

MONTECARLO - Javier Zanetti insists Inter have what it takes to come through their Europa League group and challenge for the trophy itself.

Speaking from Monaco after the Nerazzurri were drawn in Group K with Sparta Prague, Southampton and Hapoel Be'er Sheva, the vice president said: "It's a tough group and we'll have our work cut out, but Inter must always compete and we want to be doing that right till the end. We've won this competition before several times. We want to be at the front of the pack."

Zanetti also responded to questions about possible new signings before the end of the transfer window.

"I think there will be some news in the last week but I'm here now and I'll see about that when I get back to Milan. We'll be happy if we can bring in some new players to strengthen the team but Inter already have a very competitive squad. We need to give our coach and the new owners a bit of time.

"It takes time to adapt to Italian football but we're a top club and we'll do everything possible to make sure we're ready for Sunday. You need confidence to find the right chemistry. I'm optimistic and I think we'll bounce back on Sunday after our opening game against Chievo.

"The players must understand what it means to play for Inter, a club with a magnificent past. They're professionals and we're here to help them. We need to create a strong group and then the results will come."
