ZANETTI: "HARD WORK THE KEY INGREDIENT"

The Nerazzurri vice president was speaking to Mediaset Premium: "The fans are vital to us. The squad has quality and needs to show it"

MILAN Javier Zanetti has called upon everyone at Inter to work hard and pull in the right direction so that the club returns to competing for the top prizes.

"Let's all work hard so the club gets back to being competitive," the Inter legend declared to Mediaset Premium.

Before addressing footballing matters, Zanetti took a moment to speak on behalf of the club after the tragic news of the earthquake in central Italy: "We're all very upset for the victims and offer our support to the families.

"The fans are the most important thing we have. Nobody is happy with what happened on Sunday but we have to react, starting here at home against Palermo.

"We can't look for excuses. Frank is an intelligent coach and he knows where we need to improve. The squad has quality and they have to show it.

"Are we going to play four at the back? I don't know, that's up to the coach to decide and we as a club support his work.

"Loads of teams went on pre-season tours, now we just have to think about training and playing. Not even two months have passed since the change in owners, we need time but we're all aware of how much we can give.

"There are a lot of big names, now let's chat with the owners and see if we can take advantage of some opportunities. Piero Ausilio has got a lot of work in front of him.

"As for Mauro Icardi, we have said officially that he's not for sale, beyond that we haven't entered into these media games. The time will come when we have to find a solution with him and we'll tell you what we need to. Right now he needs to think about playing and doing his job as captain.

"There are many matches still to play and we hope to get back into the Champions League."
