INTER RETAIN OBERNDORF TROPHY

Stefano Vecchi’s Primavera side have won the competition for the second year running after they beat Mainz 2-1 in the final

OBERNDORF – Stefano Vecchi’s Primavera side have won the Oberndorf Tournament after a 2-1 win over Mainz in the final. It means the Nerazzurri retain the title they won last year.

Inter sailed through the group stages with wins over Stuttgart and Dinamo Zagreb, setting up a semi-final clash with Brazilian outfit Sport Club Internacional.

Though Vecchi’s youngsters dominated the game, squandering a great chance to take the lead on 7 minutes as Butic saw his penalty saved, it took a penalty shoot-out to decide which team would advance to the final. Inter’s nerve was steelier, and they won out 5-3.

The final itself got off to the worst possible start for opponents Mainz. The Nerazzurri took the lead after just two minutes’ play, Lombardoni heading home to set Vecchi’s side on their way. N’Diaye made it 2-0 on 28 minutes, and although the Germans pulled one back after the break there was to be no denying Inter.

The final whistle was met with great celebrations from the men in black and blue, while Butic was honoured with the player of the tournament award.
