PORTLAND – Fifteen years after leaving Inter, Robbie Keane has described his time at the club as "a great experience”.
The Republic of Ireland striker was just 20 when he arrived in Milan, at the start of what would become a long and successful career.
"I was only a young kid at the time but it was a great experience,” he told Inter Channel. “There were some very good players and everyone was so nice to me. I really enjoyed my time there.”
After Italy, Keane had spells at a number of clubs in England and Scotland before moving to the States to don the colours of LA Galaxy.
“I think it's always good for a football player to try different experiences in different places. It's part of life and as long as you're enjoying your football you can go anywhere.”
The 36-year-old is now playing alongside Steven Gerrard for the second time in his career.
“I played with Steven at Liverpool and it's good to be reunited with him at Galaxy. He's had a fantastic career and he's a great example for the younger players.”
Now something of an MLS veteran after five years with LA Galaxy – being named MVP in 2014 – Keane believes the league will keep going from strength to strength.
“With all the influx of top players it will keep growing and growing.”
