RISCONE DI BRUNICO – Piero Ausilio got proceedings under way in Caner Erkin's first press conference as an Inter player with a comment on the club's latest signing.
"This player doesn't need any introductions," declared the Nerazzurri sporting director. "He has international experience and is a top-quality footballer. We've had our eyes on him in the past but the conditions were never right to close the deal. The opportunity came up this year to bring him to Milan and we're very satisfied to have him here."
The mic was then passed to the Turkish defender: "I've joined a top team. I am very happy to be here and I will do everything for Inter."
Responding to whether the presence of Roberto Mancini was a decisive factor in his move, Erkin had this to say: "I have many friends at Galatasaray and I've heard great things about Mancini. He's got great character as a coach and a winning mentality. I can't wait to work with him, he's part of the reason that I'm here.
“It won't be easy to adapt at the beginning, especially given the language barrier, but I've already started learning Italian and I don't think I will find it difficult to communicate with my team-mates.
"I've joined a big club that's famous all around the world. I believe in my abilities and I hope to be useful for many years. As for objectives, we're focusing on our job. We know Inter are a big club and should aim high."
There was time at the end of the conference to find out a bit more about Erkin himself: "Do I like Milan? I've been here a couple of times as a tourist. I've played Inter before as well and I think I'll find my feet quickly because I know the city.
"I chose shirt number 18 because No.8 has always been special for me, I've had both 88 and 8 in the past. Now I've just put 1 before, another special number for me."
