MILAN – Inter Forever and everyone at F.C. Internazionale would like to wish Da Costa Jair a very happy 76th birthday.
Jair spent nine glorious seasons at Inter, helping the side win four Scudetto titles, two European Cups and two Intercontinental Cups.
Jair’s name will always be remembered for scoring the winning goal in the 1964/65 European Cup final against Benfica at San Siro, which saw Inter lift the cup for the second year in succession.
It may not have been the most beautiful of goals, but it was certainly one of the most important: Sandro Mazzola found Jair on the right-hand side of the box, the Brazilian set himself and struck straight at Benfica goalie Costa Pereira, who could only watch in horror as the ball squirmed out of his hands and into the back of the net.
