ITALY EXIT EURO 2016 AT THE HANDS OF GERMANY

Eder plays 107 minutes of the quarter-final. It ends 1-1 after extra time before the Germans win on penalties

MILAN - Italy suffered penalty heartbreak at the hands of Germany in the quarter-finals of Euro 2016 this evening.

The match ended 1-1 after regular time as Mesut Ozil's strike was cancelled out by Leonardo Bonucci's penalty. There were no goals in extra time so it came down to a penalty shootout, which saw Germany triumph and take their place in the semi-finals against France or Iceland.

Eder played 107 minutes of the game before making way for Lorenzo Insigne.
