MILAN - Suning Holdings Group chairman Zhang Jindong has given an exclusive interview to Inter Channel's Roberto Scarpini.
Mr Zhang, why did Suning decide to acquire a majority stake in Inter?
"Inter and Suning share a common vision. Of all the European clubs, Suning have always had a special passion for Inter – a club which has always stood out for its openness to people from all over the world. The Nerazzurri are Brothers of the World and that's a very similar vision to Suning's. Inter were the first European club to come to China and they helped develop Chinese football internationally so they've always had the most fans in China."
How do Suning plan to run Inter in the future?
"The first thing is to set Inter some targets. We need to make sure Inter return to the top of Serie A and are among the best in Europe. That's the only way to get Inter back where they belong enjoying real success. That level of success can also be seen as Suning's standard in the sports and football industries.
"We also want to follow three principles. Firstly, we will continue to abide by certain professional management values. Football is an art based on competition, and scientific, professional management is the basis for refining that art.
"Secondly, our objective is to be key players in Serie A and in Europe. We want to challenge for the title in Italy with the aim of qualifying for the Champions League.
"Thirdly, we will continue to support grassroots investment. We need to start by developing youth and grassroots and a team culture."
