TOULOUSE – Eder struck a late winner to secure a 1-0 win over Sweden for Italy on Friday and send the Azzurri into the last 16 of Euro 2016 with one match to spare.
It was a goal worthy of winning any game, Zaza heading a throw down into the path of Eder, who barrelled forward, holding off a number of Swedish defenders before rattling a fierce right-footed effort into the back of the net.
Italy now top Group E with six points, meaning they have already qualified for the Round of 16.
"I don’t know where I found the energy for that goal at the end," the match-winner told Sky Sport Italia after the game. "There are no easy matches here – Sweden are a tough opponent but the important thing was to get the win and move up to six points.
"In the second half we tried to play more on the wings because they were closing the space down well. There are no easy teams to play against but we deserved the win today. We worked really hard before the competition began so we all deserve credit."
