FLORENCE – Javier Zanetti has today been presented with the Memorial Niccolo Galli award for services to football over his career.
"I'd like to thank my family and this foundation," the Nerazzurri vice president said upon receiving this award. "This is reward for what I achieved on the pitch and off it as well; it means a great deal to me."
After the event Zanetti shared his thoughts on how the season went: "It was positive because we're back in Europe. Looking at the season as a whole, maybe we could have done something more but it's a starting point.
"We all want to build a strong squad which can help us return to competing for the top spots.
"I don't like giving marks but we've qualified for the Europa League and that's already a big plus. Let's hope we can build on this and go on to do even better with everyone working in the same direction.
"Mauro Icardi is our captain and he's reiterated that he wants to stay here. The foundations are there and we have to build on them."
