MILAN - Mauro Icardi says the result was all that mattered after the Nerazzurri got the three points needed against Empoli to make fourth place a certainty.
"We played well today but we afforded our opponents chances too. The main thing was getting the win and making sure we finished fourth and that's what we did," the captain told Inter Channel after the final whistle.
The striker then provided an update on his thigh injury after being forced to withdraw from the game in the second half: "I'll have tests on Tuesday and we'll see. I felt a twinge and we'll see how serious it is on Tuesday. It was better not to take any risks."
Ivan Perisic set up Mauro for the opener tonight, the Croat's sixth assist of the season - five of which have been for Icardi.
"That's his job and I thank him for it. He's a very important player for us and he's made a big contribution this year, chipping in with several goals too."
On the contribution of the San Siro faithful: "The fans always cheer us on and it wouldn't be the same without them. It was great to be able to play and score in our last match of the season at the Meazza."
Finally, Icardi took the opportunity to speak about a charity initiative next week: "Wanda and I are organising a dinner to raise funds for an Argentine kid who needs to go to China for treatment. It's always good to have the chance to help children."
