APPIANO GENTILE – Roberto Mancini spoke to Mediaset Premium from the training ground today, answering questions from guests in the studio.
The coach began by discussing Inter's improvement this season.
"We're the team with the highest attendances and it's a good thing for us because it shows we're doing something right. It takes time to rebuild when you reach the end of a cycle and sometimes you make mistakes.
"We've played really well since our Coppa Italia game against Juventus but we still lost two games during that spell. We do make the odd mistake but that's to be expected when you're putting a team together. You just need to be a bit patient and you don't always get that in Italy. I think that's one of the reasons why the Italian game is struggling at the moment."
Could Inter have done better this year?
"I said recently that I take responsibility for us not being higher because I'm the coach. Looking at how the first half of the season went, we could have up there with Roma and Napoli fighting it out for second place but we got ourselves into a bit of a rut in January.
"I changed the team around quite a lot at the start of the season because things were going well and everyone was ready to play.”
Mancini went on to speak about his relationship with the club management and the recent visit by a group from Suning.
"I get on well with everyone at the club. I speak to Erick Thohir every week and the club always has management figures up in Appiano.
“The visitors came here on behalf of a huge Chinese group. If the deal goes though, it will be done for the good of Inter."
Where do Inter need to strengthen over the summer?
"It's hard to talk about transfers now because football can be a strange game. Sometimes you don't need to change anything. When you've got solid foundations in place, it's best not to make too many changes.
"We need top-quality players who can help the youngsters. Italian? Why not, but it's not easy to find them and if they're young you need to show faith in them and play them.”
Finally, the boss was asked which of his players he feels has improved most this season.
"Brozovic is a quality player and I don't think there's anyone who runs as much as he does. He's still young and can develop further.
"Kondogbia needed some time to settle in and now he's turned in some magnificent displays in the last few months.
"Perisic came in for criticism at the start but there are lots of clubs who would like to have him now."
