INTER PRIMAVERA STICK SIX PAST SALERNITANA

Stefano Vecchi’s mauled Salernitana 6-0 at the Figliolia in Baronissi on Sunday to retake top spot from rivals AC Milan

BARONISSI – There was a stunning win for Stefano Vecchi’s Inter Primavera at the Figliolia in Baronissi on Sunday as they crushed Salernitana 6-0 to leapfrog cross-town rivals AC Milan and return to top spot.

The match got off to a terrible start for the home side, with Cuomo given his marching orders in just the 12th minute after he brought down Appiah in the penalty box. Correia stepped up, but Patella held his nerve to make the save to keep things goalless.

That miss was ultimately proved meaningless as Correia made amends minutes later by teeing up Appiah to fire home. The red card had cleared ruined Salernitana’s plans, and it was 2-0 in the 28th minute after Correia linked up with Baldini before firing past Patella from inside the box.

Inter were awarded a second penalty a few minutes later, but the chance again went begging as Delgado’s panenka-style effort clipped the top of the crossbar and flew over. There were no such problems for Appiah, however, as the Nerazzurri forward clipped home on 38 minutes to make it 3-0. And the Nerazzurri had time for another before half-time, Baldini finding the back of the net from outside the area to hand Inter a 4-0 lead at the break.

Vecchi’s lads kept their foot on the gas in the second half, Appiah completing his hat-trick on 51 minutes after his cross-shot ended up in the back of the net. And the 6-0 drubbing was complete three minutes after the hour as Correia applied the finish to some lovely play from Rapaic. It means Inter move up to first place on 51 points with three games left.
