TURIN – Inter Primavera boss Stefano Vecchi spoke highly of his side’s performance in the first leg of the Primavera Coppa Italia final on Thursday night, but was keen to stress that the job was only half done.
"I’ve said well done to the lads but this is just the first leg," said Vecchi after the game. "We’ve laid a good foundation for the second leg, but we’ve won nothing yet."
Vecchi then looked back on the match in more detail: "It was a tough match and we were fortunate too, but we knew that if we made the most of the weapons at our disposal we could produce a good performance. We have the advantage but we need to keep our feet on the ground.
"We saw how it went with Lazio and this Juventus side is even better. We had a great game but there were several errors there and we need to limit them if we want to win. We kept compact and got that little bit of luck.
"We need to earn it in the second leg and that means using the ball better and managing the anxiety and tensions better too. It would be huge to get the win at San Siro and lift a cup we’ve not won in ten years."
