MILAN – The first-ever Inter Grassroots Day has taken place at the Inter Academy sports centre in Via Cilea, with 17 Inter Grassroots Program teams from around Lombardy joined by the Esordienti side and two Inter youth academy training centre teams on Sunday. Youth academy director Roberto Samaden was there to oversee proceedings.
The afternoon was one of football, fun, education and awareness, with the clubs being tested on their knowledge with a challenging quiz: "The hardest question? The one on the number of laws of football. But the ones about indirect free-kicks were tough too! We never get them!"
As well as seven-a-side, six-a-side and three-on-three matches, there was also time for a spot of acrobatics practice: "The best exercise was trying overhead kicks on the crash mats."
Another success was the winner-stays-on seven-a-side tournament: "Everyone wants to score so they can stay on and keep having fun."
Making the event even more special for the 240 kids involved was the surprise attendance of both president Erick Thohir and vice president Javier Zanetti, who stopped for photos and autographs.
