VIAREGGIO – Stefano Vecchi was understandably disappointed after his side exited the Viareggio Cup after a 3-2 semi-final defeat to Palermo on Monday afternoon.
"We reacted well at the end of the first half," said the Primavera boss, speaking to Rai Sport after the final whistle. "Unfortunately in the early stages they took advantage of our errors to strike three times. After that we took the game to them, playing quite openly as we looked to equalise. We created the chances to make it 3-3 but we just couldn’t manage it."
Vecchi was also asked about some of the refereeing decisions: "When there are seven or eight yellow cards it means that something’s not quite right in terms of the management of the game. Both of their first two goals stemmed from iffy situations – we had two shouts in the Palermo box but nothing went in our favour. They might have been correct and we’ll have a look at some of the situations on television but sadly we can’t do anything about it now. Well done to Palermo – they did well to win the game."
