MILAN – Inter Primavera’s Viareggio Cup defence continues on Wednesday as they take on Athletic Club Ujana in the last 16 of the 68th edition of the prestigious youth tournament.
There is a little more to the clash than meets the eye, however.
Ujana come from Camp Kokola, a district in the Democratic Republic of Congo capital Kinshasa inhabited by soldiers and viewed as the bottom rung of the social ladder. Despite the extreme poverty and stark lack of education in the area, committed young coaches like Alain Tsepuk – the current president of Ujana – saw Inter Campus begin operating in the area in 2010.
The Inter Campus initiative is designed to provide practical and technical training as well as opportunities for education, recreation and collaboration, enabling local partners to develop and consolidate themselves.
And though Alain has begun a new adventure with the older players, Inter Campus is still in DR Congo working tirelessly to protect the children’s right to play in this challenging yet fascinating country.
So good luck Ujana – but forza Inter!
