VECCHI: "JUST THE START WE WANTED"

Primavera boss happy with Inter's Viareggio curtain-raiser following today's 4-0 defeat of Akademija Pandev

VIAREGGIO – Stefano Vecchi was understandably pleased after Inter U19s began their defence of the Viareggio Cup with a 4-0 victory over Akademija Pandev this afternoon.

"We hoped to get off to a good start but as we didn't know much about our opponents there was an unknown factor to consider. After a slowish opening period, we grew in confidence and finished really strong, causing a great deal of problems for the opposition. It was a good first game for us," the Primavera coach said after the game.

He also explained the reasoning behind his half-time changes: "We realised we could ask questions of them by playing into the space behind their backline so we organised ourselves differently at half time to use that to our advantage."

Vecchi went on to answer questions about individual players, starting with the choice of Rapaic as penalty taker: "We haven't had much luck with penalties this year. Scoring is always important when you're a striker and Boris lives a long way from home.

“Baldini is having a good season while Appiah is always a threat when he comes on and this pitch clearly brings him luck after last year."

The coach concluded with a few words on his squad rotation: "We've mixed up our formation a little in recent games to try and make full use of our squad and to give the Berretti and Allievi boys a chance to perform at their best. We have lots of matches this season and Viareggio offers a congested fixture list too."
