MILAN - Giampiero Marini, the man who led Inter to their second UEFA Cup triumph, celebrates his 65th birthday today.
The former midfielder turned out for the club 375 times as a player, helping the Nerazzurri claim a league title in 1979/80 and two Coppa Italia crowns, in 1978 and 1982.
After hanging up his boots, he was placed in charge of the Nerazzurri Primavera team but was called to take over the first team for the end of the 1993/94 campaign, steering them to European glory with a 2-0 aggregate victory over Casino Salzburg (now Red Bull) in a two-legged final.
Marini also won the 1982 World Cup in Spain with Italy.
