AUSILIO: "THE PRESIDENT IS ALWAYS BEHIND US"

"Fiorentina v Inter is a big match. It’s important but not decisive, because there are lots of games still to play," the Inter sporting director told Mediaset Premium

FLORENCE - Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio has praised club president Erick Thohir ahead of Sunday night’s big match against Fiorentina.

"It’s very important to have a president that follows the team and there are many ways to do that. Thohir is always in touch with the coach and the management. He’s always there for us, even when he’s in Jakarta. Having him here is important too – it really spurs us on," began Ausilio.

Turning his attentions to the match itself, Ausilio declared: "It’s a big match. It’s important but not decisive, because there are lots of games still to play. Winning here in Florence would boost our morale, but then there’ll be another game to play next week. It’s not all or nothing – Roma and AC Milan are coming back into the race too."

Ausilio was also asked about one summer signing in particular, Geoffrey Kondogbia: "He’s a quality player with bags of strength and ability. If you don’t appreciate a player like him it means you don’t appreciate the game of football. He’s come from a different league and he needs to improve and that involves making a few errors. We forgive him for them – perhaps others don’t but it’s not right to heap so much pressure on him."

Lastly, Ausilio spoke about Inter’s league standing after a tough run for the Nerazzurri: "Back in September I don’t think anybody imagined we’d be in first place for so long. We need time – nothing happens overnight in football. We’ve had a tough period but we’re up there with the other sides who were aiming for third spot at the start of the season. They’re all great sides and they’ll all be looking to realise that aim."
