HANDANOVIC: "INTER SHOULD ALWAYS AIM FOR TOP"

Our No.1 chats to Mediaset Premium ahead of the derby: "We need to rediscover the togetherness and determination we had before. The derby is worth three points"

APPIANO GENTILE - Samir Handanovic insists Inter should settle for nothing less than the best and is confident the Nerazzurri can qualify for the Champions League.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Mediaset Premium ahead of Sunday's derby clash at San Siro, the Slovene shotstopper said: "Inter should always be aiming for the top but we'll add everything up at the end. When things aren't going well you get criticism but I don't pay any attention to it. I don't read the papers because we're the only ones who see what's really going on in Appiano.

"We need to rediscover the togetherness and determination we had before and get back to playing the way we were. The derby is unlike any other game but it's still three points up for grabs. So far it's been a balanced league this year and we're still in with a shout. There are lots of matches still to play and lots of head-to-head encounters too.

"I don't think anyone likes losing but as with anything you need to remain level-headed. We have to work hard to and restore the solidity and aggressiveness we had until a month and a half ago. You get less fortunate periods – it happens to all teams."

Handanovic also spoke about his contract renewal: "I signed a new deal because I believe Inter can get back into the Champions League. We all have our ambitions."

On his many pIaudits: "I'm not influenced by what people say or think, I just keep working hard so I can make a good fist of my job. If I do well, it's also thanks to the goalkeeping coach [Adriano] Bonaiuti. What I've done in recent years is also thanks to him."

Finally, Samir was asked to comment on Inter's latest signing: "Eder is an excellent player and hopefully he'll be a great help to us."
