MANCINI: "FULLY FOCUSED AGAINST CARPI"

The Nerazzurri coach was speaking to the media in Appiano Gentile ahead of tomorrow's game against Carpi

APPIANO GENTILERoberto Mancini has called upon his Nerazzurri players to show maximum concentration against Sunday's visitors to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Inter's head coach began the press conference at the Centro Sportivo Angelo Moratti with a comment on transfer rumours after Fredy Guarin only made the bench against Napoli.

"He had a bit on his mind and I preferred to give him a rest. He trained well yesterday and he's looked good in the last three sessions in general, so he's available.

"Sometimes players feel they've reached the end of their relationship with a club. If he leaves I'll wish him all the best in the world, but if he stays he's got a huge role to play. Should he decide to move, then we'll look at some other options."

Talk then moved onto the match at San Siro tomorrow against Carpi: "They've put in excellent performances recently against Sampdoria, Udinese and Lazio. They are fighting to stay in this division, so we'll have to compete and show maximum concentration like we did against Napoli."

Mancini was also asked about the line-up he's going to deploy tomorrow. "I would prefer to play with more attacking players but sometimes that disrupts the balance in your side. You need to be able to defend as well.

"Adem Ljajic sacrifices himself for the team and does his defensive duty. He's doing this really well too, even though it's not his main quality.

"The main thing is to get the victory regardless of whether Stevan Jovetic and Mauro Icardi play together or just one of them."

Inter have a crammed fixture list coming up with matches in both the league and the Coppa Italia, so Mancini will likely resort to squad rotation.

"We've got two midweek games ahead of us and all the players with get an opportunity. If someone at risk of a suspension gets booked, then they'll miss a game. However, winning or losing doesn't rest on just one player.

"Felipe Melo is doing well. Mentally, he's back to 100% after his red card. Miranda will miss one of these games because we've got six matches to play in a short space of time."

The Nerazzurri players only seemed to show up in the second half against Napoli: "We've gone missing in some parts of the games against Lazio and Sassuolo too and we paid the price for this.

"We need to recover now and realise that there's no team in this league who are clearly superior to us and we've been competitive in every game."

Finally, Mancini commented on his future at the club and on the transfer window: "I'm not far away from Helenio Herrera in terms of appearances in the dugout and I want to try to overtake him.

"It's too early to talk about my future. Right now we have to think about the current moment and what's coming next year – I've still got a year on my contract.

"Anything can happen in the transfer window: Yaya Toure is a top player and he'll remain at that level for many years because he's got class and great physique.

"Ezequiel Lavezzi is a modern striker who knows how to do everything. Maybe he could add something to our team next season, but at the moment he's a PSG player.

"Andrea Ranocchia is still here. If he moves to Sampdoria next week we'll decide whether we need to replace him, but it has to be a decent player who offers us guarantees. Otherwise, Danilo D'Ambrosio and Gary Medel are both potential solutions."
