ICARDI: "VITAL TO WIN AFTER THE BREAK"

The Inter striker was talking to Mediaset Premium after his goal earned Inter all three points against Empoli

EMPOLI – Nerazzurri matchwinner Mauro Icardi has shared his thoughts after the away victory against Empoli this evening.

"It was important to get back to winning ways after the Christmas break and keep our place at the top of the table," began the Argentine forward, scorer of the only goal in today's game against the Tuscan outfit. "I've always said that it's my job to hit the back of the net. Last year I had more or less the same number by this stage of the season.

"There are still five months to go. Maybe we can start talking about the Scudetto from April onwards. We showed a lot of pride and guts out there and got the win – that's the important thing."

The Nerazzurri captain also found time to chat to Inter Channel: "It's important for me to score goals: that's what I have to do as a forward. Now I've got four in the last three games, which is pleasing.

"Ivan Perisic has got that ability to beat his opposite man and square it – I made sure I was ready in front of goal."

Finally, Icardi commented on the togetherness in the squad: "There are rumours going around about us, but we are a close-knit group. We're young and we want to grow together."
