MANCINI: "IMPORTANT WIN. EVERYONE FEELS INVOLVED"

"We knew it would be a tough game but we had the right attitude. Our target is getting into the Champions League." The boss comments on Inter's win at the Friuli

UDINE - Roberto Mancini praised his players' attitude and team spirit after a convincing 4-0 success over Udinese at the Stadio Friuli.

His first thought, however, was for a young fan: "We'd like to dedicate the win to a girl called Aurora who is in heaven now. She was an Inter fan but sadly she's no longer with us."

The manager then analysed the match itself: "It was a tough game and we knew it would be. Udinese are in great form and they're a decent side. We got the win and that's important. We showed the right attitude. That's how it should be all the time because there are no easy games – if you don't have the right approach it's hard to win."

The boss was asked about four of the top five facing off against each other on Sunday. "The head to heads being played tomorrow won't change much. It's too early. The four or five teams who are up there at the moment will be in the title mix till the end."

Mancini went on to comment on some specific players. "I've never been worried about Icardi – I've always said that the goals would come for him. He's on six now so I really can't see all these problems people talk about. Mauro played well today regardless of his goals. Jovetic did too. They're getting to know each other and we're seeing the results.

"Brozovic? As I've said before, I think he'll develop into a top-class midfielder.

"As for Montoya, I'd been thinking about handing him a game for a while now. He deserved it. And the fact he played well makes me very happy."

The boss then offered a further analysis of how the game developed before commenting on Inter's aims for the season and the atmosphere within the squad.

"We started off well and had that great chance with Jovetic after five minutes. We put out a very attacking side. We struggled a bit in the first half when our wide men had to drop back to help out our full-backs. In the second half we covered the whole pitch and we played well.

"We have the best defence? Now we need to make sure we have the best attack too! There are always things to improve on. But good statistics only matter if you win something and we're not even halfway through the season. Our target is to get back into the Champions League.

"We've created a good team spirit here where everyone feels involved. You need that in a team."
