PERISIC: "I KNOW WHAT THE DERBY MEANS"

"Inter were too good an opportunity to turn down. You can't say no to a club like this"

APPIANO GENTILE – Ivan Perisic spent the whole summer hoping to make his dream move to Inter and after several long months it has finally come true. So it came as little surprise when the new Nerazzurri winger opened his press conference today by saying: "I'm glad to be here because Inter are one of the best clubs in the world. My first game is against AC Milan too, one of the biggest games in the world. I know what the derby means to our fans and we have to give our best to win it, but we also have to try and win every game and not just the derby."

There was a lot of talk about the influence Roberto Mancini had in players choosing to join Inter over the summer, and Perisic said: "My agent only spoke to Fassone and Ausilio, then Mancini called me and we chatted about the position I could play in – more about tactical matters."

Probed for more details on where he will operate at Inter, he said: "It's up to the coach. I can play anywhere in midfield and I've played as a striker before, in the hole and out wide. It's up to Mancini to decide, I'll do whatever job he wants me to do."

Italy is new experience for the Croatia star: "I spent the last four years in Germany and it was a great period for me. I learnt a lot of thing from two good coaches and I think that will serve me well here too, at this big club."

Having finally joined Inter after a long, drawn-out transfer saga, he admitted: "It was a three difficult months but Inter are a great club and you can't say no to a club like this. I spoke to Wolfsburg and in the end I managed to make the move to Milan. It's the first time in my career that a club has gone to such lengths to sign me. I don't think I'll feel the pressure but I do realise that expectations are high and I want to live up to them. I've joined Inter to make sure there's no repeat of the negative season they had last year."

So why did he choose Inter? "Last year at Wolfsburg we came second in the Bundesliga and we won the cup. I was due to play in the Champions League but Inter were too big an opportunity to turn down."

Finally, he had a word to say about the derby and Sunday's opponents AC Milan: "I don't think it's normal that these two clubs should finish so low down the table as they did last seaon. Both teams will be going all out to put in a top performance in the derby and we have to make sure we don't get caught out."
