MANCINI: "DECENT GAME AGAINST A TEAM FURTHER AHEAD THAN US"

The boss' post-match verdict after the Nerazzurri were beaten 1-0 by Bayern in Shanghai: "We made a few mistakes but overall it was a good performance"

SHANGHAI - Roberto Mancini believes Inter fared admirably against one of the world's best teams despite suffering a 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich today.

"It was a good match," he told reporters in a media conference after the game played at Shanghai Stadium. "Obviously playing against one of the best teams in the world at this stage of the summer was no easy task. We're further behind in terms of our fitness than they are and we came up a bit short when we had chances to score. We made a few mistakes but overall it was a decent performance."

The Nerazzurri manager went on to comment on the individual displays of Jeison Murillo, Mateo Kovacic and Geoffrey Kondogbia.

"Murillo made a good impression: he's got a strong character to go with his physique. It's a shame he picked up that knock but I don't think it's anything serious.

"Kovacic played very well in that position and it wasn't at all easy because we were up against a full-strength Bayern side.

"Kondogbia did well too. He's only been training with us for ten days and I think he'll need a bit more time to find his best form but I'm happy with his performance all the same."

Finally, he admitted that the German champions remain a notch above his side at the moment but that he expects Inter to make continued improvement.

"Bayern are a great team who play superb football. They're awash with talented players and have an excellent coach. Of course we're not on a par with them at the moment but we need to improve – both our football and our results," Mancini concluded.
