ICARDI: "I WANT TO STAY"

The Inter striker spoke after scoring two goals to reach Luca Toni at the top of the Serie A scoring charts

MILAN Mauro Icardi cut an understandably contented figure in the corridors of the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza this evening after his brace helped Inter to a 4-3 win over Empoli.

"I didn’t expect to do so well this season, so I’m delighted. I take each game as it comes and train hard so that I can give my best. The team has helped me to score goals and that’s why I’ve achieved this," declared the Argentine striker.

"This was a match to win at all costs to finish the season on a high at San Siro. We’ll start next season with the memory of a win and that’s a great way to kick things off. I’m sure that with the boss we’ll succeed – we’ve been working well for a good five or six months now and we’ll get better in preseason," he continued.

"All players want to be in the Champions League, but I’m happy here at Inter and hope I can qualify for that competition next year with a great Nerazzurri side. In terms of my contract, I want to stay – you know that. Now there just needs to be an agreement with the club. It’ll take time because we’re still talking, but I’m optimistic," concluded Icardi
