APPIANO GENTILE – Inter coach Roberto Mancini spoke to the press this afternoon as his side prepare for a trip to Liguria to take on Genoa on Saturday night: "There’s a good feel around the place. We have two games left to play, but unfortunately it’s not just down to us. We’ll try to get the result in Genoa and hope that the other teams slip up. It won’t be easy, but anything can happen and we’ll do everything possible to get the three points."
When asked about the future, the Nerazzurri boss stated: "Thohir wants to build a great side and that is great to hear from my perspective. The coming months will be important. We need quality reinforcements that can give the team what it’s missing right now.
"If we find players with the right characteristics, we’ll be able to improve the existing players in our squad as well. It won’t be easy, but we need to make transfers befitting of Inter, with our objectives clear in our minds. We’re on the right track and can’t afford to make any mistakes," declared Mancini.
The Inter coach then spoke about the progress shown by his side in recent weeks: "We’ve improved, but we know that we still need to take a step forward. Playing at San Siro is not easy but we need to work on that type of situation because being the home side should be an asset that makes a real difference. We’ll keep moving forward – the future is very clear to us. We know what we need to do."
Asked about Davide Santon, Mancini responded: "He had a string of great games, but then he dropped off a bit physically due to the fact that he’s had ten months out. Right now he’s available for selection, though he’s not at 100%. He’s a player we really believe in for the future."
There were also questions about Serbian defender Nemanja Vidic: "He’s only trained once this week because of a back problem. We’ll see how he is over the next few hours."
Finally, Mancini spoke about January recruit Xherdan Shaqiri: "I know him well as I used to follow him at Basel. We’re happy to have signed him. It’s the same story for him as with Santon – he’s had a dip in fitness because when he came here he’d barely played for months. He’ll be a big player for us. We think a great deal of Xherdan because he has fantastic quality."
