ZANETTI: "AIM TO GET INTER BACK WHERE IT BELONGS"

Nerazzurri vice president gave an interview to Il Corriere dello Sport's Web TV

ROME – Two days on from Match For Expo and the retirement of the Nerazzurri No.4 shirt, Javier Zanetti spoke to Il Corriere dello Sport's Web TV.

He began by commenting on the reception he was given at the Meazza on Monday: "I tried to build my career based on respect so it feels particularly gratifying when I see that fans – and not only Nerazzurri fans – care about me."

The Inter vice president went on to discuss the club's present and future: "Our aim is to put together a competitive side in the shortest space of time possible. It's going to be a challenge given that Italian football isn't going through the best of times at the moment, but together with the rest of the management, with president Thohir and the Moratti family, we'll do everything in our power to take Inter back to where the club belongs."

He added: "In any case, I think the fact there are three Italian teams in the semi-finals of the European competitions this season is a sign that our game is on the up again. I do hope things are turning around. Hopefully we'll see new stadiums built that are family friendly and more comfortable, and they'll help to change the mentality."

Finally, the vice president was asked about Calciopoli: "It's a black page in Italian football history. Unfortunately it happened and everyone saw it. You can't pretend you've forgotten everything. But we do all have to move on now."
