MILAN – The Expo 2015 got underway today with a ceremony that saw involvement from the countries taking part and some of Italy’s leading figures. The event will be a great opportunity to explore fundamental issues such as food and life. The Expo’s core theme, of course, is "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life".
Inter was represented at the ceremony by two ambassadors in the shape of vice president Javier Zanetti and Brazilian midfielder Hernanes. Zanetti, invited up to say a few words, declared: "We’re here! The Expo is a massive event all over the world. I consider myself a Milanese and I’m proud that Milan has answered this call. Global nutrition is a very important topic and I think that exploring it directly can help us all take a step forward."
The legendary Nerazzurri captain was also keen to emphasise the contribution and solidarity that football can offer: "With the PUPI Foundation, we’re taking part in the Expo through sport in order to recognise the importance of the event. All profits from ticket sales will be donated to a variety of associations working in the Milan area."
The Match for Expo will take place on Monday 4 May. You can donate by sending a text to or calling 45592 (€1 by text, €2 from a landline) between 1 and 5 May. All donations will be used by the PUPI Foundation to help the children and families in the Mama Amor project.
