SANTON AND BANCHI HIT SIXTH IYCM WORKSHOP

The Nerazzurri defender and coach of the Olimpia Milano basketball team were special guests at the sixth Inter Youth Coach Master workshop

MILAN – The sixth Inter Youth Coach Master is underway. Participants of the course, which is organised by the Nerazzurri youth academy, had the chance to meet two special guests: Luca Banchi, coach of the Olimpia Milano basketball team, and Davide Santon.

Inter youth academy director Roberto Samaden said a few words at the event: "It’s a source of great pride to have a coach like Luca Banchi here. We’ve already had the honour of his participation in the past and it’s a real pleasure to see him at the Inter Youth Coach Master once again. He’s achieved an awful lot in his career, first at Siena and now at Milano. And I’m sure he’ll achieve a great deal more in basketball."

Samaden also spoke about homegrown talent Davide Santon: "Davide is a great example too, because of the journey he’s had through our youth academy. His story is a little bit different and goes further than just technical development. He was playing at a high level at a very young age and had to tackle various problems, of a physical nature also.

"He went abroad to test himself in a new footballing culture, he matured and now he’s come back to us. In our line of work, seeing a lad like him reach a certain level fills you with pride. The fact he’s still here shows how strong he’s been," declared Samaden.

Just before Banchi’s lecture, there was time for a few words from the current Nerazzurri fullback: "It’s an honour to be back at Inter after four years at Newcastle. I’m happy to be here and hope to stay for a long time. I’ve been through some tough moments, but that’s part of football. My experience in the Premier League helped me to grow – they live football in a different way there. But now I’m happy to be home."
