MILAN - Roberto Mancini was the first out to face the media post-match. It was a strange game, with Inter bossing most of the 90 minutes and yet ending up on the losing side: "I've got nothing to say to the lads tonight, we have to keep playing like this. We need to try and overcome this tricky period and get back to winning ways."
The coach is already looking forward: "There are 10 matches to play and we have to continue to play as we did tonight, I'm happy with our performance. Sadly, I'm not happy with the last month and so it's hard to talk about performances tonight. Besides the difficulties we've faced, I believe there are very few matches in which we've deserved to lose. There are times when you can't comment on things. It's hard to explain how we lost this evening. We were pulling the strings and one free-kick changed the game."
Should Palacio have started? "Rodrigo has played a lot, Podolski meanwhile was fresh and I wanted to give him a chance." Mancini had the following to say after a week of intense scrutiny and criticism, with some dubbing his time in charge as a failure: "I've got nothing to say because I'm a coach and I accept criticism. I believe projects go beyond 3-4 months and I'm in charge of a team that finished sixth, ninth and fifth in the last three seasons. You need to consider the work we've done in a larger context. I've been coaching for a number of years and I know how to deal with criticism when it comes.
"Guarin can play anywhere across the midfield. Projects last longer than a few months, I'll stress that again and I believe you have to always work in medium-to-long term. That's how players develop tactically."
