VECCHI: "WE'RE IN A GOOD POSITION"

Primavera boss takes stock after victory over Perugia edged his youngsters closer to automatic qualification to the Final Eight

SESTO SAN GIOVANNI – Stefano Vecchi cut a satisfied figure after his Primavera side took full advantage of their game in hand to beat Perugia this afternoon.

"We were up against a Perugia side in excellent form. They came into this on the back of a seven-match unbeaten run in which they drew with Atalanta and beat Chievo. But it was very one-sided today and the only reason the result was left hanging in the balance was that we squandered so many of the chances we created,"  the coach told Inter Channel after the rearranged Week 17 fixture.

"We're very happy because we played well despite missing lots of players. Those who have played a bit less so far came in and did a great job, showing that they're very good alternatives."

Today's win takes the Nerazzurri three points clear of AC Milan in second and more importantly extends their lead over third-placed Cesena to 15 points, meaning that automatic qualification to the Final Eight is almost certain.

Vecchi admitted: "We're in a good position and we've managed to overtake AC Milan again. Now we have a fortnight to recover and get on with our work. We need to make the most of this time because the results we've achieved so far are the consequence of our day-to-day work with the entire coaching staff. We want to head into the business end of the season in tip-top shape."
