MILAN - Class, power and reliability. That's Lothar Matthäus in three words.
With his searing runs and phenomenal shot, the German superstar was one of the driving forces behind the record-breaking Inter side of 1988/89. Besides that unforgettable Scudetto triumph under Giovanni Trapattoni, he also lifted the Italian Super Cup (1989/90) and Inter's first UEFA Cup (1990/91), weighing in with 51 goals over 153 appearances.
The former midfielder was the first Nerazzurri player to win the Ballon d'Or (1990). He also captained Germany to World Cup success at Italia '90 and won the inaugural edition of the FIFA World Player of the Year (1991).
To this day Matthäus is fondly remembered by Inter fans across the world. And we are sure they will join us in wishing him many happy returns on the day he turns 54. Happy birthday, Lothar!
