MANCINI: "WE NEED TO GIVE AS LITTLE AWAY AS POSSIBLE"

"We face a very strong team, but we’ve got the quality to get through to the next round," declared Roberto Mancini ahead of Wolfsburg v Inter

WOLFSBURG – Nerazzurri boss Roberto Mancini spoke to the press this afternoon ahead of tomorrow’s round-of-16 first leg between Wolfsburg and Inter at the Volkswagen Arena: "Wolfsburg are a great side, a very complete side. It’s not by chance that they’re doing well in the Bundesliga.

"You don’t get to second in a league like the Bundesliga without playing to a high level. Dost has scored a lot of goals, but it’s the whole team that’s performing well. They have no real weaknesses. It’s going to be a very tough tie.

"I’m sure it’s going to be a great round-of-16 tie and that tomorrow will be a wonderful match in a fantastic stadium. The name and history of the club doesn’t matter – it’s the players that go out onto the pitch and we too have some very good players in our squad. We need to play well to give as little away as possible.

"We face a very strong team, one of the toughest in the competition, but we’ve got the quality to get through to the next round. Wolfsburg are happy to be playing us? That’s because we’re Inter. We’re a massive club and can bring a lot to the match here in Wolfsburg.

"We’re looking for the right path to get back to the top and I’m sure that we’ll be fighting for the title next year. We need to be very alert tomorrow night if we’re to qualify for the quarter-finals," declared Mancini.

There was also a specific word on Inter defender Juan Jesus: "He’s a talented player, a young player. He needs to be calm and understand that mistakes can happen. We play every three days and the only way to respond is on the football pitch."
