MILAN – Despite the defeat, Nerazzurri boss Roberto Mancini was keen to underline the positives to be drawn from tonight’s match at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza: "We were too generous to our opponents. We know they’re an excellent team and I think it was a very even match. Had we equalised straight away, we might even have been able to get all three points tonight.
"The problem was that we were a bit indecisive in the early stages. Fiorentina are a team that knock the ball around very well. We should’ve been more aggressive, more decisive in the first half. After the break we had the chances to level the match, like the Palacio attempt.
"It was a really balanced match in the first half, with neither side enjoying too many chances. Then, little by little, we grew into the game in the second half. If we’d got the equaliser, I think there’s a possibility that we’d have gone on to win the game," declared Mancini.
Mancini went on to comment on some individual performances: "Shaqiri did well. He played on Thursday, so it was time to rotate the team a bit. Podolski needs to do more. His performances aren’t sufficient at the moment and he knows that better than anyone. I expect more from Kovacic too.
"We’re fighting on two fronts right now. We can’t choose between them and we don’t want to. If it’s clear that Napoli are too far ahead in a few games’ time, we’ll reassess our objectives," concluded Mancini.
